Jeremiah Denson
Loses ISCF US Title At

"CLASH IN THE CAGE 200"
April 5th, 2013 - Grain Valley, Missouri, USA

Former ISCF Amateur United States Lightweight Champion Jeremiah Denson (At right when he won the title in 2012) had to face what no Champion ever wants to... Losing his title without even entering the cage. In Denson's case, he never even made it to the scale.

Denson (Grain Valley, Missouri, USA, 13-2, 153, 5'10", 2-13-90, Phil Jones) won the ISCF Title on April 6th, 2012 in Grain Valley, Missouri, USA at True Fight Fan's, "Clash in the Cage 173". He defeated Johnathan Ford, by Tap Out (Guillotine) at 1:40 of Round 3.

This past Friday night, April 5th, 2013 again in Grain Valley, Missouri, USA, in what would have been his first defense of his title, he was scheduled to fight Eric Grant of Olathe, Kansas, USA. (9-3) However, on Friday prior to the scheduled bout, ISCF Representative Chuck Wolfe informed the ISCF that Denson was having problems trying to cut weight.

This was confirmed when Wolfe informed the ISCF, "Eric Grant won the title by forfeit. Jeremiah Denson never showed up to weighin."

Congratulations to the new

Michelle Waterson Armbars Jessica Penne To Become New Invicta FC World Atomweight Champion
Barb Honchak Earns Unanimous Decision Over Vanessa Porto To Become First Invicta FC World Flyweight Champ In History
Cris Cyborg Stops Fiona Muxlow In First Round, Setting Up Rematch With Marloes Coenen
Sarah Kaufman Earns Split Decision Over Leslie Smith In Barnburner Battle

KANSAS CITY, MO, Mike Afromowitz
In an unforgettable night of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) action, Michelle "The Karate Hottie" Waterson (11-3) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA submitted Jessica Penne (10-2) of Huntington Beach, California, USA with an armbar in the fourth round of their main event showdown to become the new Invicta Fighting Championships World Atomweight (105 pounds) Champion at Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City on Friday, April 5, live on InvictaFC.com.

In the co-main event of the star-studded, 13-bout women's world championship doubleheader, Pat Miletch-protégé Barb Honchak (8-2) of Bettendorf, Iowa earned a unanimous decision over Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Vanessa Porto (15-6) of Sao Paulo, Brazil to become the first Invicta Fighting Championships Flyweight (125 pounds) Champion in history.

In her first start since December 2011, pound-for-pound sensation Cris Cyborg (11-1) of Curitiba, Brazil showed no signs of rust, pulverizing a courageous Fiona Muxlow (6-3) of Townsville, Queensland Australia in a featherweight (145 pounds) matchup. Cyborg dropped Muxlow in the opening seconds of the contest with a right hand and smothered Muxlow, who made it to her feet but couldn't fend off the relentless attacks of Cyborg. A final barrage of punches prompted the referee to step in and stop the fight, giving Cyborg the TKO win in the first round and earning her a second meeting with fellow superstar Marloes Coenen, whom Cyborg stopped by way of third round (3:40) TKO (punches) on January 30, 2010.

Leslie "The Peacemaker" Smith (5-3-1) of Pleasant Hill, California and Sarah Kaufman (16-2) of Victoria BC, Canada engaged in an all-out slugfest for three straight rounds in a bantamweight (135 pounds) barnburner highlighted by Smith putting Kaufman on the canvas with a head kick. Kaufman rallied in the third round with a double leg takedown and, after they stood up, a hard right hand before being declared the winner by split decision.

Jennifer Maia (7-2) of Curitiba pulled off a stunning upset, earning a unanimous decision over Zoila Frausto Gurgel (12-3) of Cincinnati, Ohio. Maia neutralized Gurgel's offense against the cage fence for the majority of the first two rounds and, in the third stanza, opened up with kicks and punches before the bout came to a close.

In the opening main card bout of the night, "Rowdy" Bec Hyatt (5-2) of Brisbane, Australia took the fight to previously undefeated Jasminka Cive (5-1) of Graz, Austria from the outset of their strawweight (115 pounds) matchup, mounting Cive and unloading a storm of punches to the head. From mount, Hyatt secured Cive's arm and transitioned to armbar, forcing Cive to tap from the hold.

Florida Commission Closes Investigation
Clearing the Way for Fallon Fox to Fight

By Damon Martin, On April 3, 2013 - bleacherreport.com

Transgender fighter Fallon Fox has tackled the latest obstacle in her hope to remain a competitor in the state of Florida, and she will be allowed to compete at her next scheduled bout for Championship Fighting Alliance on May 24. On Tuesday, the Florida Boxing Commission closed the investigation into Fox's licensing application, which means she will be able to compete in the state in future fighting events.

Fox was issued a fight license by the state in early March, but the application she submitted was under review for "alleged discrepancies." "Fallon Fox was issued a Florida license on March 2, 2013. Our Department had been investigating alleged discrepancies in the information provided on the application, and during that investigation Fox's license was not suspended or frozen; it was still active. The investigation was concluded yesterday," said Sandi Poreda, Director of Communications for the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, in a statement emailed to Bleacher Report on Wednesday.

"Currently, there is nothing that would prohibit her from being proposed on a fight card in our state. We have not received any fight cards for future fights for her at this time." Fox has been at the center of controversy for the last several weeks after she revealed that while born a male, she underwent extensive treatment and eventually surgery to become female. The 37-year old fighter was competing in the CFA women's 145-pound tournament where she recently knocked out her opponent in just 39-seconds.

On her application for a fight license, Fox had not disclosed her medical status as a transgender female. Upon further review, the Florida commission didn't believe there was enough information to support further action. "The evidence does not support prosecution of the specified violations of Chapter 548, Florida Statutes, or the rules promulgated thereunder. Therefore this case should be closed," read a statement by Roger Maas, Assistant General Counsel to the Florida Commission.

The MMA world has been buzzing ever since she revealed her transgender status with everyone from UFC commentator Joe Rogan to former Strikeforce champion Miesha Tate weighing in on the subject of whether Fox should be allowed to fight women having been born a man. While several doctors have argued the point of Fox's body chemistry as to whether or not she should be allowed to fight, the decision to allow her license to remain in tact ultimately came down to the Florida commission who will oversee her next scheduled fight. That decision has now been made and Fox is cleared and her license remains valid. Her next opponent is scheduled to be 2-1 fighter Allana Jones, who stated as of earlier this week that she would face Fox in the next round of the tournament in May.

The finals of the tournament could come into some question however as Peggy Morgan, who sits on the other side of the bracket opposite of Fox, has stated that she will not face her should the two of them be paired together in the finals of the tournament. "I do not think there is sufficient hard evidence to show that Fallon does not have physical advantages over the women she has fought," Morgan said in a statement via her management's website. "I understand why people are advocating for Fallon and I appreciate that it is important to protect her rights, but I think it should be just as important to protect the safety of the other women in the tournament. Until I am presented with conclusive evidence that a fight with Fallon would, in fact, be fair, I will not be entering the cage with her."

The CFA tournament will continue regardless with their next event in late May and now Fox has been officially cleared to return to action for her next fight regardless of who she may or may not face if she makes it to the tournament finals.

FROM Sherdog.com
Should California license Fallon Fox to compete against women?

Fallon Fox, the first known openly transgendered mixed-martial artist, is only a couple of steps away from receiving a license to compete in California according to California State Athletic Commission Executive Officer Andy Foster. Fox applied for a license in the Golden State but she will have to wait to hear from the commission while they await a recommendation from the state's Medical Advisory Committee. She will likely have to provide records showing what surgical procedures and medical therapies she has undergone before getting the green light to compete in the state. Foster spoke with Sherdog.com today and outlined the process that should unfold over the next couple of weeks. "I have been trying to get Dr. Paul Wallace and the Medical Advisory Committee together but it has been tough to get six doctors together in the same room," said Foster.

"We'll take it up and I am sure they will ask for more information from the applicant." Foster stated that he believed Fox would be granted licensure in California providing she meets the guidelines laid out by the Association of Boxing Commissions a set of standards developed to mirror Olympic protocols regarding transgendered athletes. "I suspect it is more of an 'if' rather than 'when' question at this point, but we will have to wait and see," said the executive officer. "If everything is in order and the doctors recommend licensure, I will recommend licensure as well." Foster also noted that once Fox is licensed she will not be subject to added scrutiny by the commission. "Should she be granted licensure in the state of California she will be treated the same as any other licensee."
