Anonymous Sponsor Steps In
To Aid IBL Team Owners

This news will excite all potential IBL Team Owners.
As some here know, last week, the ISCF stepped in to sponsor IBL Team Owners who are also ISCF Promoters. The ISCF stepped up and offered to pay $1,000 of each Teams Registration Fees to the IBL for all ISCF Promoters who are planning to purchase an IBL Team. This was great for the ISCF Promoters, but what about those who are not ISCF Promoters? Well, for those non ISCF Promoters, your prayers have been answered... This week a sponsor stepped in and told the IBL that for every team that registers, he would pay $1,000 of their Team fees, making their fees only $1,500 now.

"This is the way we had hoped things would start working out" said IBL Commissioner Steve Fossum. "The more sponsors we can bring in to aid the League, the more successful it will be."

The funny thing here is that the sponsor has asked to remain anonymous. "I'm doing this to help the Amateur side of the sport" he said. "The concept of the IBL sounds exciting and I'm just proud to be in a financial situation where I can step in and help."

The Team registration deadline for the 2008 IBL Season is March 1st and with this reduction of fees it will surly make it easier for Teams to form. Those Teams who have already registered at the $2,500 fee will be sent a check for $1,000 later this week.

For those looking to Register for an IBL Team, go to the IBL Team Registration Page that can be found by clicking HERE.

I Have A Team
But I Don't Know How To Promote
Or Don't Have A Venue...

No worries here... We have had several trainers tell us they can put an IBL Team together but they have never promoted before. Well, we have taken some time to look into a remedy for this issue and have come up with some very helpful ideas.

These various scenarios will be brought into play after we see how many IBL Teams are registered after March 1st. If you can't promote your own events, many of the other IBL Promoters can and well, and share the income with you. So if this is stopping you, it shouldn't any longer...

ISCF
Implements New "AMATEUR" Fighter Forms

The latest ISCF Safety decision comes fresh on the heels of the recent issue with MMA Fighter Wes Osburn of Springfield, Missouri, USA. As some here may remember, Osburn fought as an Amateur after fighting as a Pro the weekend before. in addition, as if that wasn't bad enough, he also fought that second event after being stopped by TKO, "AND" given a 30 day suspension by the Indian gaming commission.

Because the ISCF does not want to see this happen again, they have now made it MANDATORY that EVERY AMATEUR fighter on ALL ISCF Sanctioned events complete and sign the new ISCF AMATEUR Fighter Confirmation Form.

This form binds Amateur Fighters to their word that they have never fought as a Professional (As Osburn did) and that they have not been Knocked out or stopped due to KO, TKO or injury within a minimum of 30 days prior to the event they are fighting on and signing the form for. For legal reasons the form is very detailed covering all the legal issues related to the topic as well as dealing with the ever so controversial issue of Women fighters and the possibility as well as potential liability of them bring pregnant for their fight.

To see and use the new form click HERE.

In addition, due to the requests of several Promoters, the ISCF has also created a Release Of Liability Waiver Form for Promoters to use. This form can be found by clicking HERE.

To give Promoters time to implement this new form, the form will become a mandatory requirement for all events beginning March 1st, 2008. To review the ISCF stance on pros vs Amateur status click HERE.

IBL FIGHT NEWS...

IBL Has it's Own
News Page!

As of today, the IBL has it's own News Page.
For future IBL info you can read it here on the ISCF News page or on the new IBL News Page,
Found HERE

POTENTIAL IBL OWNERS...
The IBL Does Not Need Everything!

A special note to potential IBL Team Owners...
You do not have to submit your entire roster by the Team Registration Deadline of March 1st. In fact, all the IBL needs from you by March 1st is your completed Franchise Application - Registration Form that tells what city and state you will represent and your registration fees to confirm your regional position.

Teams will have plenty of time between March 1st and the beginning of the IBL Season to complete their Team Roster, Team Logo and even their official IBL Team Name.

First Year Is Best
For New IBL Owners...

Another special note to potential IBL Team Owners...
Those who become a part of the inaugural IBL Season will be locked in to some special benefits. To begin with, the IBL Franchise Fee for the 2009 IBL Season will be more than the inaugural 2008 year. However, all 2008 IBL Team Owners will continue to pay the same IBL Team Franchise Fee for a minimum of 3 years. in addition, first year IBL Owners will also be given much larger percentages of IBL Merchandise sales and several other additions to be announced soon.

It is the plan of the IBL to have an annual League meeting among all the Team Owners. At this meeting, the Team Owners will discuss various issues about the IBL such as Future Goals, Marketing, Awards, Promotions, League Rules and Regulations, Sponsorship, TV/Media and the Financial Status of the IBL to determine if Franchise Fees should go up or remain the same until the next IBL Owners meeting.

Another Special Page!

The IBL has added a page for fighters looking to be on a Team. Over the last couple of weeks several fighters have been looking for Teams that have openings. The IBL cannot promise all fighters listed on this page will get on a Team, but at least their name is out there so Owners know about them. In the last post, this was called a "Fighters Available" page.

As the Teams Owners and Coaches are announced, some of the Teams will offer try-outs. However, most Teams already have all their fighters. More IBL News coming later, but for now... "Battle ON!"

It Will Be Awhile Before
Wes Osburn Fights Again...
Legally...

A little over a week ago on February 2nd, Amateur MMA fighter Wes Osburn of Springfield, Missouri entered the ring at Ricky Duane Davidson II's "MID-MO-FIGHT SHOW 6" in Moberly, Missouri, USA to fight for the vacant ISCF Mid-Central Regional Heavyweight Title. Eight seconds later, the fight was over after his opponent, Daniel Gallemore connected with a right that knocked Osburn to the floor. When Osburn attempted to get up he was wobbly which forced the Referee to end the bout.

What many did not know is that Osburn had lied to the Promoter and the ISCF Representative as well as his opponent. The lie touched on many different fronts.

To begin with, as everyone here reading this knows, once you fight as a PRO, you are considered a PRO from that moment on. However, Osburn has Glenn Cozzen (Left) listed as his trainer. The question is, did Cozzen's know what was happening? This is still yet to be determined by the ISCF. Regardless, from what is clear, Osburn didn't think that rule about amateurs and pros applied to him because the weekend before this fight on January 25, Osburn fought on Dale Cook's Xtreme Fighting League "Superbrawl 2008" event at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma and was registered and paid as a Pro MMA Fighter.

Osburn fought in bout number 2 against a fighter named David Fuller. In the bout, Fuller defeated Osborn by a punch KO only :30 seconds into round 1. On top of this, according to sources, he was also suspended by the Oklahoma State Boxing Commission for a KO Suspension.

We were able to find Fuller on Sherdog's (2-0) database which included the Osburn result. We know when the fighter background check was done (Friday, February 1st, 2008 - 8:40 PM/PST ) for Davidson's ISCF Event that Osburn fought on that Osburn was not listed in the Sherdog database. Other than this we saw that Cook (Promoter Dale Cook) was calling Fuller the "THE 300LB SMASHING MACHINE" with a record of 1-1. The promotion also had Osburn listed as 2-0, when we know for a fact that he was actually 3-1 when he stepped into the ring against Fuller in Oklahoma on January 25.

So what does this mean? Well, lets break it down...

However, any smart state commission official can and will see that this can, and HAS happened to not only MMA fighters but also in Professional Boxing and Kickboxing. Sometimes the records of suspension authorities such as "Fight Fax" are not updated quickly enough and because of this, no one knows about a KO, suspension, let alone that a fighter fought as a Pro. This is not an isolated incident with MMA. It has happened before and as in Pro Boxing, it will happen again. What needs to be done is those of us in MMA need to be man enough to "Step-up" and let people know when they see this coming. Thus was the case here...

It has been made clear to us here at the ISCF that several individuals KNEW Osburn had fought Pro on this Oklahoma fight card before he was to fight on Mr. Davidson's fight card as an Amateur. More so, these same individuals KNEW he was Knocked Out on the Oklahoma event. However, because these individuals work with some other ( So called) MMA sanctioning bodies based out of Missouri and Oklahoma they thought they would rather try and make the ISCF look bad here rather than "Step-up" for the safety of a fighter that was just "KNOCKED-OUT!"

So due to their desired "Political Gain" none of these other individuals were man enough to "Step-up" and let anyone know about Osburn's KO... However, what these silent individuals don't realize is that the "Negligence" card is on them now, not the ISCF, not the Promoter or the ISCF Event Representative.

So who is negligent here? Certainly Osburn holds the main responsibility of his own negligence. However, in addition, those in the sport who knew ahead of time and stayed quiet shall carry the burden of guilt as well. By not stepping up, they risked the safety of Osburn to begin with. With just 1 Pro fight, the difference of Osburn's ability would not have been suddenly better having now fought that 1 Pro fight. However, he would not have been allowed to fight as an amateur anymore.

When those associated with the ISCF step-up and inform someone that a fighter on their card is pro and booked to fight amateur, or that a fighter just got knocked out and he shouldn't fight, many, even some state commissions take it as if we are crying to them. LET THIS BE A LESSON NOW, Before someone gets Killed! Even to the State commissions. If you are informed by ANYONE about a fighter with circumstances such as these, you need to LISTEN!

Taking this a step further, IF other event promoters as well as Sanctioning Bodies posted their pre-fight fight cards on a legitimate web site (As the ISCF does), more people could see things like this coming far before they happen. The question is though, "Who else will do this?" Their excuse has always been "This is too much work..." This is what sets the ISCF apart from these other "So called Sanctioning bodies." To the ISCF, sanctioning the sport of mixed Martial Arts whether pro or amateur is more than letters and a sanctioning fee. This is, as it has ALWAYS BEEN, about Fighter Safety!

ISCF TAKES ANOTHER STEP FORWARD
For The Safety Of MMA!

What if Osburn would have died? Sound impossible? Tell that to the California State Commission about a kickboxer named Redone Bougara who, like Osburn, LIED about his past. If you really want to read a story that will floor you, that VERY WELL could have happened here, click HERE!

This action will not go without additional actions by the ISCF, towards Safety. Of course, Osburn will be fined and suspended for his actions by not just the ISCF, but other States as well.

In addition, the ISCF has now put into play a MANDATORY Confirmation form for all ISCF Amateur Fighters to sign and date under penalty or perjury on the day of their event BEFORE their scheduled fight that assures all involved that they are indeed an AMATEUR Fighter and have NEVER fought as a Pro on any Full Contact fight event (MMA, Boxing or Kickboxing). Despite the ISCF doing fighter background checks (That no one else does, not even in USA Boxing) the Osburn incident proves that fighters can and will fight as a Professional one weekend and do their best to fool everyone else and fight as an amateur the next weekend, knowing that their results are not posted anywhere but maybe a message board which is not a confirmed and assured location. This new mandatory fighter form has now been nicknamed the "OI Form" for the Osburn Incident.

In addition, the form will also require truth of signature to assure the fighter has not been suspended as well as knocked out or stopped by Technical knock out within a certain number of days. Each form will require a fighters signature, drivers license number, last 4 numbers of the fighters social security number (For ID purposes) as well as the same from their trainers. as in the Osburn case, his trainer, Glenn Cozzens of Springfield, Missouri will also be fined and suspended due to allowing Osburn to take such an action.

Hang On Everyone...
The IBL Is Gaining
MORE SPEED!

The IBL is catching on fast and the eyes are looking this way....! All with VERY LITTLE marketing of the first legit Amateur MMA Team Fight League. Who would have ever thought that such a league would have such a BANG before hitting any of the main media sources!

Although the official announcement of the IBL happened late on Friday, January 18th, the Official IBL website was not launched until after 8:PM on Wednesday, January 23rd. What has surprised everyone here is the massive interest in the IBL. From Thursday, January 24th up until yesterday, Tuesday, February 5th (13 days) the IBL site has had over 1,200 "Unique" visitors to the site and over 33,000 hits. Yes... "Thirty Three THOUSAND!" Already the sites "Alexa" numbers have jumped from a first week in the millions to already under 900,000 (862,291). In the last week the site dipped even lower to 647,238. Alexa.com is a web rating site that ranks web site ratings. The lower the number, the more traffic the site is getting.

Surprisingly a lot of interest has come from outside the USA as well. So far individuals from 14 other countries have e-mailed us here at the IBL Headquarters asking if the IBL plans to expand outside the USA immediately or if the growth plan is slower. Those inquiries have come from the USA neighboring countries of Canada and Mexico of course, that could easily be added into the IBL mix. However, the surprise to the IBL has been the interest from the countries of England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Ghana, Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands and Hungary. The biggest surprise was the inquiries received from Japan. Seems they have a big desire to start up an IBL League in Asia. Sweden has shown a big interest in the IBL too. So much that 9% of the IBL site traffic worldwide has come from there. The Alexa rank for the IBL site in the USA is 272,541 while in Sweden it's at 140,700. "I'm not sure how fast we want to grow outside the USA." Said IBL Commissioner Steve Fossum. "This has exploded far beyond our original growth plans and Steve (Crawford, IBL VP of Operations) and myself have found ourselves overwhelmed with inquiry e-mails now and we are still in the Team building stages."

The IBL has now posted a "Question Answer ( Q & A )" page (Click HERE) to answer a lot of the general questions they have been receiving. Added soon will be a "Fighters Available" page. This page will list some of the Amateur fighters looking to get on IBL Teams. As the Teams Owners and Coaches are announced, some of the Teams will offer try-outs. However, most Teams already have all their fighters. More IBL News coming later, but for now... "Battle ON!"

IBL
GROWING FASTER
THAN EXPECTED

Another Weightclass Is Added
And First Season Looking Exciting!

There has been a lot going on with the IBL since it was launched back on Friday, January 18th. Just over two weeks old and the ball is rollin much faster than expected. One of the big additions is the adding of another weightclass. This was due to High Demand of requests by the smaller fighters in the Featherweight division. This makes 6 weightclasses for the IBL which are

  1. Featherweight, 135 lbs. to 145 lbs.
  2. Lightweight, 145 lbs. to 155 lbs.
  3. Welterweight, 155 lbs. to 170 lbs.
  4. Middleweight, 170 lbs. to 185 lbs.
  5. Light Heavyweight, 185 lbs. to 205 lbs.
  6. Heavyweight, 205 lbs. to 265 lbs.

Of course this adds the question of "What if there is a 3-3 tie at the end of a Team competition?" Well within a couple of weeks the IBL will announce the exciting way a Tie will be broken by the two Teams if it occurs.

In addition, the IBL is also creating ways to allow Team Owners to host more events. Various plans include Team Tryout Events as well as competitions among the Teams Alternate fighters.

The IBL Owners page has also been updated which includes an Owners Application. ( IBL Owners Page ) As the IBL approaches the March 1st Deadline for Team Registration, already there are several teams established in Missouri along with Virginia, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa and Kansas. Additional interest is coming from North Carolina, New Mexico, Indiana, Ohio, Arkansas, Tennessee and several other States. "This may be bigger than we have plans for, which is a good thing as long as we can keep up with the demand, which is actually a good thing." Said IBL VP of Operations Steve Crawford. "We are excited about the response for Teams and Steve Crawford has been doing a great job to get the word out" said IBL Commissioner Steve Fossum. "We haven't even started our initial advertising for the league and already we have Teams established."

For the first year the IBL is offering initial Team owners special incentives on things such as IBL merchandise licensing, non IBL event Sanctioning discounts, Graphic design work and several other incentives. As Teams are added, the new Amateur Fight League keeps attracting more and more intention. "It's about time someone took the Amateur Seriously." Says Fossum. "Wait till they see them do Battle!"
