Will Farr's New Georgia AC
Destroy What Was Working Great?

We have seen the MMA scene change every year but what is happening in the State of Georgia is simply a JOKE!

Special To ISCF: There is a lot more to the new proposed rules and regulations for MMA in the State of Georgia than new director Kelly Farr (sorry, no photo on file, but we are seeking one...) wants many to believe. Despite the truth that MMA was doing great in Georgia before Farr and his new commission took over, he want's others to believe the sport was, "Out of control!" Keep in mind that this is coming from a guy who has NO IDEA about Fight Sports... Not even Boxing!

What is surprising here is how did Farr get this job? ANY and ALL business require some background knowledge about a job position before they hire a new employee. So who hired Farr? Or was it a "FAVOR" appointment as it is in some other states by the Governor? Farr has NO CLUE what the rules and regulations are for any of the fight sports. ESPECIALLY MMA! But he sure knows how to use terms such as "You are not in compliance with Georgia law."

Farr's commission can't even put together their own web page... See for yourself by click www.georgiaboxing.org

Farr and his "Gang" started "Making up" their own rules and regulations for MMA by seeking what "Some" of the other states do. However, he turned a BLIND EYE to those in the sport and instead, treated the sport like Amateur BOXING... In the end, their new rules pretty much destroyed MMA in Georgia.

Sure, there were issues in the Georgia MMA scene, but not related to rules, regulations and safety of the sport. in fact, Georgia has been one of the safest states for MMA. The only issues among the Georgia MMA scene were the politics between sanctioning bodies and the different promoters who used the different sanctioning bodies. Simply put, this is SAD work by the Farr and his new Georgia Commission gang. Pretty funny how a commission that has no idea what MMA is has suddenly become so eager to take the money MMA brings in to the State of Georgia. Funnier yet though how they once wanted to ban MMA, and now that it makes money, they want us all to believe they embrace it... LOL!

In the end, Georgia will see "FARR" less money spent by those who "Would" have spent their dollars in Georgia such as fans and other promoters.

However, we do know that Farr has created a huggy relationship with Dana White of the UFC, who if he had things his way, would do away with ALL Sanctioning bodies and do away with Amateur MMA. To White, the UFC is the ONLY game in town and he wants to see everyone else die off. Seems Farr and White have made a bed together, and we hope they both snuggle up tight and sleep well together from their work to destroy the other promoters in Georgia, not to mention, piss off a lot of their loyal fans of UFC along the way.

What goes up, WILL come down. The day is coming for the UFC and Dana White as well as people like Kelly Farr. These guys are lose cannons who are working together to attain their own agenda that includes no one else! Morals, Ethics and simple Karma are greater laws we must all abide by or be forced to eventually give in to, and the way they are going, when it happens, the fall will indeed be a hard one.

"With great power comes great responsibility..."
And it's clear here who has not been responsible at all.

Notes from the event:
Jason David Frank refused his non scoring exhibition fight with Ron McMaster at the last minute because he felt the crowd would boo him for doing an exhibition instead of an official bout. He felt by doing MMA or Thai Boxing would showcase his skills better than a Full Contact Kickboxing match. Jason felt with his movie experience (Power Rangers, Fall Guy), an exhibition fight would discredit his good name and reputation. He also felt the crowd would not look upon him as a credible competitor.

RESULTS FROM
MMA Evolution II
June 9th, 2007 - Bloomington, Illinois, USA

ISCF Midwest Representative Mike Storm: The folks at "The Hive" turned up the volume for their second Mixed Martial Arts event in Bloomington, Illinois this past weekend. They learned much from their first card in Peoria a few months back. With tremendous sponsorship, the perfect venue, a well thought out game plan and fighters anxious to compete, they took control and put on an impressive show much to the delight of an excited crowd of spectators who packed the house. This event displayed the skills of both Professional and Amateur fighters with both men and women competing. In addition to the regularly scheduled card was a grappling exhibition (no striking) between Erich Whaples from Oswego, Illinois and Allen Bailey from Pekin, Illinois who put on a fine show.
Here are the results of the evening:

  1. Men's Amateur Welterweight
Chad Lockhart 1-3, Jeremy Pasley/Bob Long, Canton, IL, VS Nicholas Sandage, 2-0, John Karlsen, Gibson City, IL
The fight begins with Sandage throwing kicks and knees to the body of Lockhart forcing Lockhart to grab Sandage and tie him up. With both fighters standing up against the cage, Sandage wraps one of his legs around the back of Lockhart's legs and tries to take him down. Lockhart manages to twist and roll and is able to achieve the top mount on Sandage. Lockhart throws a series of punches to Sandage's body causing Sandage to tie up his arms to neutralize the power of the punches. The round ended with Lockhart on top and Sandage holding him to stall the attack. All three judges awarded the round to Lockhart on their scorecards.
Round 2 Sandage attempts a left jab which Lockhart avoids while shooting in and grabs Sandage around the waist taking Sandage down achieving the top mount with a head lock on Sandage. Sandage gets his head out and they proceed much as they did in the first round with Lockhart on top and Sandage with legs around bottom. Sandage is able to push his hips to the side and is able to grab Lockhart's arm. Sandage attempts a kamura on Lockhart and during the attempt he is able to roll Lockhart over and gain a full top mount on Lockhart. Lockhart bridges and rolls Sandage over and off of him but Sandage maintains the hold on Lockhart's arm executing an arm bar. At 1:56 of the round, Referee Bob Long stops the match when Lockhart taps out.
    Winner by Submission-Nick Sandage.

  2. Men's Amateur Lightweight
Ryan Smith, 0-2, Bob Long, Canton, IL VS Alan Johnson, 1-0, John Karlsen, Gibson City, IL.
Round 1 Both fighters exchange kicks to start the round and grab each other to tie the other up. They grapple around and fall to the ground with Johnson on top in a half mount. They twist and wrestle around allowing Smith to grab Johnson's leg with an attempt at an ankle lock but Johnson manages to slip out of it and get Smith into a side mount. Johnson throws several punches to Smith's head forcing Smith to twist around and get his head between Johnson's legs. Johnson sits back on Smith's head throwing left punches to Smith's head while using his right hand to avoid Smith's attempts to wrap his legs around Johnson's head. The round ends with Johnson punching Smith in the head and the body.
Round 2 The fight is stopped when Smith is unable to answer the bell to begin the round due to too many blows at the end of the first round.
    Winner by Submission, Alan Johnson.

  3. Men's Amateur Lightweight
Anthony Mullins, 1-0, Phil Johns/Bob Long, Canton, IL VS Tom Marr, 0-4-0, Jeremy Pasley, Canton, IL.

Mullins is successful in freeing his head while at the same time he swings his leg over Mahr's body and pushes Mahr up against the cage in a full mount. Mullins then proceeds to rain punches down onto Mahr's head. Mahr, unable to defend himself, forces Referee Bob Long to stop the fight at :56 of the round.
    Winner by TKO, Anthony Mullins.

  4. Men's Amateur Middleweight
Joshua Milroy, 0-1, Joe Pearson, Bettendorf, IA, VS John Karlsen, 1-0, Self, Gibson City, IL.

Milroy pulled the choke off once until Karlsen wrapped his legs around Milroy's waist and with a relentless attack, applied the choke again and had Milroy tapping out at :21 of the round.
    Winner by Submission, John Karlsen.

  5. Men's Amateur Heavyweight
Mark Hanegger, 2-1, Bob Long, Canton, IL VS Ron Tickle, 1-0, T.J. Mohler, Pontiac, IL.
Tickle starts by throwing a right haymaker that just misses as Honegger slides around and takes Tickle down. Tickle puts Honegger in a front head lock with Honegger in a side mount. Honegger frees his head, Tickle rolls exposing his back to Honegger but holds onto Honegger's arm with an arm bar attempt. Honegger moves around to a side mount to take pressure off of his arm and then continues moving high onto Tickle's head. Tickle releases the arm bar and is able to stand. Both fighters, now standing, move around the cage trying to get the advantage but after several attempts by each, neither can gain the edge. They roll around against the cage until Honegger is successful in a single leg takedown as the bell rings to end the round.
Round 2: Honegger begins the round with an attempted single leg takedown. Tickle blocks the attempt, sprawls and put his weight on Honegger while throwing punches to the head of Honegger. Referee Bob Long stops the time after several warnings and takes a point away from Tickle for punching Honegger in the back of the head. The fight resumes with Honegger attempting a double leg takedown on Tickle but the cage holds them up. Honegger succeeds in taking Tickle down but Tickle is able to get a front choke on Honegger with his legs around Honegger's body causing Honegger to tap out at 1:47 of the round.
    Winner by Submission-Ron Tickle.

Gerald Meerschaert, 3-2, Dave Strasser, Kenosha, WI VS Joshua Hereford, 1-1, John Karlsen, Gibson City, IL
Meerschaert comes out throwing a series of left and right punches to Hereford's face which Hereford is unable to block. Hereford clinches Meerschaert pulling him down to the ground. Meerschaert gains the top position while continuing to pound Hereford with punches to the face. Hereford, still unable to block the relentless onslaught of blows turns over and gives Meerschaert his back. Meerschaert, on Hereford's back, gets his hooks in and locks his arms around Hereford's neck with a rear naked choke. At 1:03 of the round, Hereford taps out.
    Winner by Submission-Gerald Meerschaert.

  7. Men's Amateur Lightweight
Nam Do 3-1, Ryan Blackorby, Peoria, Ill. VS Chris Tickle 1-1, T.J. Mohler, Bloomington, IL
Tickle comes across the ring and attempts to dominate Do with punches to the head and knees to the body. Tickle manhandles Do to the ground and gets Do in a half mount still throwing punches to Do's body. Do twists out and away from Tickle and manages to get back to his feet. Do closes on Tickle and takes him down but Tickle is able to get a front head lock on the way down. Do frees his head, swings his leg over Tickle's body and gets a full mount on Tickle. Tickle reaches up and wraps his arms around Do's head in order to neutralize any attack. After a period of inactivity, Tickle rolls over and gives Do his back. Tickle holds onto Do's arm, controlling it to avoid a choke while punching over his shoulder to Do's head with Do's back against the cage. The round ends with both fighters sitting on the ground, Do at Tickle's back, Tickle controlling Do's arms. A very close round with the edge in the round going to Do on the judges cards.
Round 2: Tickle again comes forward and tries to manhandle Do with punches and kicks followed up by grabbing Do around the waist and throwing him down. With Tickle in a full mount doing the "ground and pound" on Do, Do turns and gives Tickle his back. Tickle gets his hooks and goes for a choke. Do avoids the choke and rolls over onto his back giving Tickle a full mount once again. Do, with excellent ground skills, twists and turns continually forcing Tickle to change holds and positions until Do is able to reverse positions with Tickle on the bottom and his legs around Do as the round ends. The edge in the round going to Tickle making it an even fight going into the last round.
Round 3: Do is ready for Tickle's opening moves in this round and ducks the power punching to begin the round by clinching Tickle and they proceed to roll around against the cage. Do presses Tickle up against the cage. Do attempts to take Tickle down but Tickle blocks the attempt. Do wants to take the fight to the ground but Tickle appears to want to keep it standing. The Judges Scores
Will Stand

It became official today that two judges decisions that were questioned back in April at an IFL event in Moline Illinois will stand as judged. "This was a decision I stayed out of" said ISCF President Steve Fossum. "I have my personal thoughts but I can't act as a dictator here so it was reviewed by others who were not at the event itself. This was clearly the longest review I have ever seen."

"Although Fossum's personal thoughts were not in agreement with the bout outcomes, it's not his place to make judgment on judges calls. For this I believe he did the right thing." Said an ISCF Rules Official who was part of the review process. "It's not our policy to overturn a judges decision but we were asked to look closely at this one and we did."

As all those on the review board agreed, each judge will see things differently from the others because of the seating configuration. If someone is going to review a bout "After the event" to try and determine the winner just because they felt the fighter that won wasn't the same that the judges awarded the bout to is a bad policy and an insult to the judges who were trusted to be in that position. One of the review boards issues in regards to their desire not to overturn judges decisions was that if you don't have a video from each judges sight line, you are not able to properly review the bout because all judges don't see the same things happening for obvious reasons. The referee could have blocked some of the action from a particular judge, the fighters could have been in a position to block some of the action from a particular judge. If we are going to start second guessing the judges assigned to work a bout, then stop having judges at ringside, video all bouts and have a panel review them after the bouts the next day and then notify the winners after the panel has had time to fast forward and rewind the video and Monday morning quarterback the bouts.

As far as reviewing a bout on video, the only time that this should be done would be to clear up a foul or address an issue that might have taken place during the bout or critique the referee. In this case, issues such as a point deduction, a foul that caused an injury that forced the stop of the bout, etc. etc.

"I was not a judge that night and in fact, I don't even like to look at myself as a judge." Said Fossum. "However, from what I saw, the two winners of those bouts were Roy Nelson and John Gunderson. Not meaning to insult them but it wouldn't surprise me if Ben Rothwell and Bart Palaszewski felt the same way that night. So, we will just end it here knowing that myself personally and Ken Shamrock both feel the same way."
