IBL Soon To Announce Big Changes
For 2009 Spring Season!

"The first year for the IBL (International Battle League, www.IBLFights.com) was indeed a learning year which will greatly help the future of the league dramatically." Said IBL Commissioner Steve Fossum. "What some may see as setbacks and failures, we see as great lessons for the future that will only make the league stronger in the future."

The future is something the IBL surly has on its side right now. Sadly, this was not the case for the first ever Team Fight league, the IFL (International Fight League, www.IFL.tv) Due to the fact that it was a publicly traded company, the IFL had to have it's books open to the public which saw many looking at it as a losing company due to the much needed start-up costs. Public opinion wanted to see overnight success instead of a slow build. In the end, that "We want it now" attitude along with a few other not so good decisions brought the IFL to it's knees. However, instead of going out gracefully, those in charge in the end choose to "Make-up" stories about those who were there in the beginning, blaming them for the failure. Ending CEO Jay Larkin and his staff implemented changes that could have helped but also took away some of the best parts that made the IFL what it was. In the end, Larkin's proposed changes were too little, too late and all that was left of the Dream of founders Kurt Otto and Gareb Shamus was a website... www.IFL.tv

Seeing the IFL go down slowly and the way it happened has helped the IBL remain focused and not lose site of its goals. The IBL has the pleasure of being able to learn first, succeed second, a formula that happened for the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship - www.UFC.com) For years the UFC lost millions of dollars until landing a major TV Deal with Spike TV only a few short years ago. The deal was a blessing for EVERYONE in MMA so love them or hate them, Everyone in the MMA industry owes the UFC a lot for that deal!

From the looks of what everyone in the IBL learned during the opening year, and what they plan to change for year two, it's clear the IBL will be around for a long time.

It looks like later this week the IBL will be announcing some major changes to the new Amateur fight league. Among them will be the introduction of a "Split Team" League for the season where Teams will have choices between owning a Team with more Experienced fighters of more than 3 fights or a Novice Team with fighters with 3 fights or less.

Some of the other changes include a mixed weightclass roster and less number of fighters per team. The IBL is also considering a Woman's slot for each event as well.

The 2008 IBL season started strong with 12 Teams but faced many setbacks when Teams could not fill their roster with enough fighters or find enough fighter's with enough experience to compete competitively with some of the other Teams' Rosters. Some of the other issues that hurt the 2008 Season was event scheduling. When it was all said and done, the KC CAGE MONSTER'S of Overland Park, Kansas became the quiet but first IBL Champions.

With the new changes the 2009 IBL Teams will have an easier time finding talent and making matches at each of the League Events. Probably the best news of all will be the reduction of Team Fees for the 2009 Season. From what we have been told, the fees will drop from $1,500 per Team to somewhere around $500 for an IBL Novice Team and $800-$1,000 for an IBL Open Team.

The 2009 IBL Season will begin in February and the schedule and Teams should be announced sometime in December, 2008. If you are interested in an IBL Team for the 2009 Season, please contact the IBL directly. For their contacts page, click HERE.

Due to the IBL schedule, the ISCF MMA World Classic Amateur MMA Championships will be moved to the Fall of 2009.

Results From The Hive Inc.'s
"MMA EVOLUTION 10"
October 11th, 2008 - Pekin, Illinois, USA

Results submitted By Michael Storm, ISCF Representative.

The Dragon's Dome in Pekin, Illinois was the site the folks at "The Hive" chose to have fighters from Iowa and Illinois do battle with each other in mixed martial arts action on Saturday night October 11th, 2008. They also put together an exciting main event by bringing Baltazar Acosta all of the way from Cedar Hill, Texas to fight a local favorite, Donald Harper from Washington, Illinois for the ISCF United States Amateur Bantamweight Title.

Here are The results of the night…

  1. AMATEUR MMA Lightweight
    Brandon Whippie, 0-2-0, 142, 5'8", 8/21/89, Keokuk, IA, VS Robert Pechacek, 2-0-0, 146, 5'8", 8/14/90, Elk Grove Village, IL, T.J. Mohler, 309-838-5495.
Pechacek started out as the aggressor in the round with several attempts at takedowns which Whippie avoided by sprawling keeping his back to the cage. Pechacek, unable to complete the takedowns at first, stepped back and tried again. Eventually, Pechacek was successful with a single leg takedown and swung his leg over from a side to a full mount and threw punches at Whippie's head. Whippie turned and gave Pechacek his back allowing Pechacek to dig his hooks in and throw left/right punches to the side of Whippie's head. Whippie was unable to improve his position and defend himself from the punches which forced Referee Chris Rudesill to step in and stop the fight at 2:28 of the round.
    Winner by TKO-Robert Pechacek.

  2. AMATEUR MMA Welterweight
    Phillip Shulte, 0-4-0, 169, 5'9", 9/6/86, Keokuk, IA, VS AJ Siscoe, 1-0-0, 161, 5'7", 9/20/90, Danvers, IL
Round 1: Siscoe managed a takedown early in the round and stayed on top of Schulte throughout the duration of the round. Siscoe attempted to get enough room between himself and Schulte so he could strike at Schulte's head and body but Schulte was able to neutralize many of the blows by clinging to Siscoe's head and body. The round ended with Siscoe on top and all judges giving the round to Siscoe.
Round 2: Schulte opened with a kick to Siscoe's body. Siscoe stepped through it and took Schulte down again and achieved a full mount. As he started the "ground and pound", Schulte twisted and gave Siscoe his back. Siscoe worked on a rear naked choke but Schulte was able to fight it off so Siscoe gave up on it and began punching Schulte in the head. Referee Chris Rudesill stopped the action, stood both fighters and warned Siscoe for punching Schulte in the back of the head. The fight resumed with both fighters standing. Siscoe was successful with another takedown at the end of the round and earned the edge in the round on all scorecards.
Round 3: Siscoe began with another successful takedown into a full mount. Schulte twists out and Siscoe slid off to the side allowing Schulte to gain the top. Schulte was unable to achieve an advantage and due to a lack of action, Referee Chris Rudesill stopped them and stood them up to start again. Both fighters were very tired and walked around the ring for a while until Siscoe shot in and got another takedown. The fight ended with both fighters holding each other down.
Winner: All judges scored the fight 30-27. Winner by Unanimous Decision, A.J. Siscoe.

  3. AMATEUR MMA Heavyweight
    **Albert "Jimmy" Cresswell 6-3-0, 223, 5'9", 7/25/88, Fort Madison, IA, VS Kevin DeLong 1-2-0, 213, 6'2", 8/8/68, Pontiac, IL, Chuck Painter, 309-825-5022.
Round 1: Cresswell opened with a takedown and held De Long down without throwing any strikes for the first part of the round. Eventually, De Long twisted away and managed to stand and then made a successful takedown of his own. Cresswell tried to hold De Long down but De Long was able to make enough separation between himself and Cresswell to allow him to strike Cresswell with enough punches to give him the edge in the round on all cards.
Round 2: De Long began with punches at Cresswell which caused Cresswell to tie him up. Both fighters rolled around against the cage until Cresswell was able to put De Long in to a standing guillotine. From that position, Cresswell was able to throw knees to De Long's body. He continued kneeing De Long's body until De Long went down to a knee at which time Cresswell stepped back and started throwing punches. De Long grabbed Cresswell's leg and pulled him down on top of him. Cresswell was able to throw the more successful strikes from the top position which earned him the edge in the round on all cards.
Round 3: Cresswell began with a front kick to De Long's body and then followed it up with a takedown. Cresswell started to punch De Long from a full mount and forced De Long to turn and give Cresswell his back. Cresswell tried a rear naked choke but slipped off to the side allowing De Long to get on top in a half mount. Cresswell rolled out, turned toward De Long and "bulled" him over backward where he began the "ground and pound" on De Long's head. It was determined that De Long was not effectively defending himself so Referee Chris Rudesill was forced to step in at 2:54 of the final round to stop the fight.
    Winner by TKO-Albert "Jimmy" Cresswell.

  4. AMATEUR MMA Welterweight
Shaun Danielson, 4-5-0, 168, 5'11", 12/6/88, Fort Madison, IA, Derek Doherty, 319-470-6093, VS Dorian Mosack, 3-6-0, 170, 5'11", Peoria, IL, Bob Johnson, 309-678-8157.

It was a close round when two judges gave the edge to Mosack.
Round 2: Mosack started with more kicks to Danielson's legs and body. Danielson caught the leg again and pushed Mosack up against the cage. Mosack slipped and tried to take Danielson down. Danielson side stepped the attack and threw a series of punches to Mosack's head as he came in and forced Referee Chris Rudesill to step in and stop the fight at :31 of the round.
Winner by KO-Shawn Danielson. - Shawn was also awarded the "Fighter of the Night" trophy for his performance in the fight.
  5. AMATEUR MMA Featherweight
    Ken Kirby, 5-1-0, 134, 5'9", 12/17/78, Heyworth, IL, Chris Tickle, 309-533-9786, VS Ricky Bell, 0-2-0, 138, 5'7", 8/28/87, Peoria, IL
Round 1: Bell came across the cage and hit Kirby with a punch. Kirby wrapped his arms around Bell and threw him to the ground. Kirby held him down for a period of time trying to work an advantage but when he was unable to, he stepped back and allowed Bell to stand. They exchanged blows and then clinched allowing Bell to throw a couple of knees to Kirby's body. Kirby again grabbed Bell around the waist and took him down as the round ended. In a close round, two judges gave the edge to Kirby and one to Bell.
Round 2: Bell scored an early takedown but Kirby quickly switched positions on him and ended up on top. Kirby swept Bell's legs to the side and rolled Bell over so he could get to Bell's back. Kirby attempted a rear naked choke but Bell successfully blocked it. Bell found himself fighting against the choke for most of the round which gave Kirby the edge on all cards.
Round 3: Bell threw several strong punches at Kirby's head early in the round. Kirby absorbed most of the blows as he waded inside and tried to pin Bell against the cage. Bell lost his balance and fell as he tried to throw a wild looping punch at Kirby. Kirby jumped on top of Bell and pinned him to the ground controlling the action from that point on. The round ended with Kirby on top. The judges scored the fight 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.
Winner by Unanimous Decision, Ken Kirby.
  6. AMATEUR MMA Welterweight
    Trent Wilkens 2-2-0, 158, 5'10", 1/4/85, Peoria, IL, VS Andy Guillotte 1-0-0, 154, 5'7", 9/2/81, East Peoria, IL, Brad Peplow, 309-657-6787.
Round 1: They began trading blows to each others head. Wilkins landed a hook to Guillotte's head that stunned Guillotte and forced him to grab Wilkins around the waist to take him down. Wilkins twisted and turned to escape from Guillotte by getting to his feet. Guillotte grabbed Wilkins around the waist and pressed him against the cage where Wilkins tried to knee Guillotte. To avoid the knees, Guillotte pulled Wilkins down on top of him but Wilkins was unable to do anything from the top position. All judges gave the round to Wilkins.
Round 2: Guillotte wasted no time taking Wilkins down. He got a full mount and started throwing punches to Wilkins' head. Wilkins turned and gave Guillotte his back. Guillotte continued to punch the head as Wilkins came up to his knees and allowed Guillotte to get his hooks in and attempting a rear naked choke. After a few moments, Guillotte slipped off to Wilkins' side allowing Wilkins to get the top position. After several moments of inactivity, Referee Chris Rudesill stopped them and stood them up to begin again. Once again, Guillotte scored a quick takedown as the round ended. All judges gave the round to Guillotte.
Round 3: The last round went much like the second round. Guillotte was able to take Wilkins down. Wilkins stayed very busy while on the bottom constantly twisting, bridging and rolling to keeping Guillotte from pinning him down but Guillotte expertly moved and rolled with him and maintained the dominant position throughout the round. As the round ended, Wilkins gave his back to Guillotte and was caught in a rear naked choke as the round ended. All judges scored the fight 29-28.
    Winner by Unanimous Decision-Andrew Guillotte.

  7. AMATEUR MMA Welterweight

Round 1: Hinman threw left/right combinations to Davis' head. Davis responded with kicks to Hinman's body. Hinman threw a kick at Davis' body but Davis caught the leg and dumped him to the ground and fell on top of him. They rolled around on the ground constantly switching positions. They finally ended up with Davis on the bottom and Hinman on top. Hinman stood over Davis and threw punches down but Davis neutralized the attack forcing Hinman to step back and allow Davis to stand. Hinman came forward with a left/right combination and put Davis in a head lock which was followed by a hip throw with Davis ending up on the bottom. They rolled around again until the bell ended the round. In a close round, two judges gave the edge to Hinman and one to Davis.
Round 2: Hinman wrapped his arms around Davis' body in an attempt to take Davis down. He slipped and ended up with Davis on top of him in a full mount. Davis threw punches at Hinman's head as Hinman twisted and rolled to reverse positions and escape in another closely contested round. Two judges gave the edge in this round to Davis and one to Hinman.
Round 3: Davis got an early takedown and threw punches at Hinman but Davis got his arm caught by Hinman who attempted an armbar. Davis stood and pulled his arm out and continued to pin Hinman and press him against the cage. Davis stepped back allowing Hinman to stand and get his arms around Davis' neck in a standing guillotine. Davis got his head out and pulled Hinman down on top of him. Hinman got up, stepped back and signaled for Davis to stand. Hinman wanted to finish the round standing and striking. As the round ended, both fighters exchange left hooks that land. In a very close, action filled fight, the judges scored it 29-28, 28-29 and 29-28.

Round 1: Wilson came across the cage throwing punches at Salinas causing Salinas to duck and take Wilson down. Wilson bridged and rolled out of the takedown and ended up on top of Salinas in a full mount. He threw punches at Salinas' head forcing Salinas to reach up and pull Wilson down to neutralize the power of the blows. Toward the end of the round, Salinas was able to bridge and roll allowing him to switch positions with Wilson but it was too little too late. All judges scored the round for Wilson.
Round 2: The fighters exchanged punches and kicks to begin the round. Soon Salinas shot for a takedown but Wilson blocked it by sprawling and turned Salinas over onto his back. From a side mount, Wilson threw punches to one side and knees to the other side of Salinas' body. Wilson swung a leg over to a half mount and grabbed Salinas' arm catching him in a bent arm bar (Americana) that forced Referee Chris Rudesill to step in and stop the fight at 1:35 of the round.
    Winner by Tapout, Jon Wilson.

  9. AMATEUR MMA Welterweight
    Ryan (Or Ryne?) Vincent, 3-0-0, 171, 5'7", 4/20/83, Fort Madison, IA, VS Eric Hollis, 2-3-0, 165, 5'9", 6/25/70, Peoria, IL, T.J. Mohler, 309-838-5495.
Round 1: The fighters began with an exchange of kicks and punches. Hollis threw a wide hook that Vincent ducked under and executed a double leg takedown that pinned Hollis against the cage. After a period of inactivity where Vincent laid on top of Hollis and Hollis appeared content to hold him down, Referee Chris Rudesill broke them up and restarted them from a standing position with about thirty seconds left in the round. The remainder of the round consisted of a lot of posturing but not a lot of fighting. All judges scored the round for Vincent.
Round 2: Both fighters appear to want to fight standing up this round. Vincent moves forward to engage but Hollis retreats to avoid getting hit. Hollis threw a lot of punches toward Vincent but nothing that connected. Vincent threw several kicks to Hollis' body which Hollis' would catch but never had anything to follow up. Two judges gave the round to Vincent.

Vincent threw more than a dozen inside and outside leg kicks with a couple of body kicks thrown in for good measure which scored big points with the judges. Hollis spent the whole round backing up to avoid getting hit and had very little offense of his own in the round. The judges scored the fight 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.
Winner by Unanimous Decision, Ryan Vincent.
  10. Vacant ISCF United States Amateur Bantamweight Title
    Baltazar "Balti" Acosta, 4-1-0, 135, 5'10", 8/3/81, Cedar Hill, TX, James Pham, 469-826-4163, VS Donald Harper, 7-2-0, 135, 6'2", 5/15/89, Washington, IL, T.J. Mohler, 309-838-5495.
Round 1: Harper, with an obvious reach advantage due to longer arms and legs, circled Acosta and threw kicks and punches. Acosta stood his ground and blocked many of the shots until he was close enough to shoot for a takedown on Harper. Harper, on the bottom, took some punches as Acosta stood over him until he was able to get his long legs up and around Acosta's head and shoulders for a triangle choke. Acosta fought the choke and pulled his head out of it but left his arm where Harper could grab it and lock down a straight arm bar. The round ended before Harper could get Acosta to tap out. All judges scored the round for Harper.
Round 2: After an ineffective exchange of punches, Harper shot in and took Acosta down. Acosta held Harper's head, turned and rolled Harper over onto his back where Acosta landed a couple of knees to Harper's body from a side mount and controlled the action for a great portion of the round. Harper adjusted his position and held tight onto Acosta which caused a period of inactivity that forced Referee Chris Rudesill to stand them and restart the fight. Harper closed the distance and grabbed Acosta around the waist and dropped him on the ground. Acosta turned and gave Harper his back allowing Harper to get his hooks in but didn't have enough time left in the round to do anything. In a close round, two judges gave the edge to Acosta.
Round 3: Acosta came forward with a series of body shots that backed Harper to the cage. Acosta then attacked with a flying knee which Harper blocked by raising his own knee which accidentally struck Acosta in the groin. After a brief recovery period, the fight resumed with Harper kicking Acosta's leg. Acosta answered with a pair of kicks to Harper's body that drove him back to the cage. Harper used the cage to bounce himself forward and get a takedown on Acosta. Acosta spins and faces Harper which left both fighters on their knees. Harper tried to push Acosta back but Acosta caught him in a guillotine choke which forced Referee Chris Rudesill to step in and stop the fight at 1:25 of the round.
